Optimizing Bending Accuracy on an Adira Press Brake PAO-22040PLS Through Calibration and Gemetrical alignment in South Dakota.
Updated: May 6
Inconsistent bends on a press brake can disrupt production and waste materials. Recently, I worked on an Adira Press Brake PAO-22040PLS that was producing inconsistent bends, which prompted a thorough service and calibration process. This post shares the steps taken to restore precise bending accuracy, focusing on key mechanical and control system adjustments.

Checking and Adjusting the Scales and Repositioning Accuracy
The first step was to inspect the scales responsible for measuring the ram position. These scales directly affect the bending angle by providing feedback to the control system. I carefully cleaned and calibrated the scales to ensure they reported accurate positions.
Next, I tested the repositioning accuracy of the ram. This involved moving the ram to specific positions repeatedly and measuring the actual displacement. Any deviation was corrected by fine-tuning the control parameters on the Cybelec Modeva 10S controller. This step is crucial because even small errors in ram positioning can cause inconsistent bends.
Fine-Tuning the Hoerbiger Hydraulic System
The Adira PAO-22040PLS uses a Hoerbiger hydraulic system built in Germany, known for its reliability but requiring precise adjustment. I checked the hydraulic pressure and flow rates to confirm they met the manufacturer’s specifications.
Adjustments were made to the pressure relief valves and flow regulators to stabilize the ram’s movement. This helped eliminate jerky or uneven motion during bending, which was contributing to the inconsistent results. After tuning, the hydraulic system delivered smooth and consistent force throughout the bending cycle.
Aligning the Back Gauge and Tool Holder Table
Proper alignment of the back gauge and the Wila bottom tool holder table is essential for accurate bends. I measured the geometrical alignment between the back gauge and the center of the tool holder table using precision tools.
Any misalignment was corrected by adjusting the back gauge position and verifying the parallelism of the tool holder table. This ensured that the sheet metal would be positioned correctly before each bend, reducing errors caused by material misplacement.
Leveraging the Cybelec Modeva 10S Controller for Precision
The Cybelec Modeva 10S controller plays a vital role in managing the press brake’s movements and settings. After mechanical adjustments, I updated the controller’s parameters to match the new calibration data.
This included inputting the corrected scale readings, hydraulic settings, and back gauge positions. The controller’s user interface allowed for fine control over bend angles and repeatability, which improved the overall bending consistency.

Final Results and Recommendations
After completing the service and calibration, the Adira Press Brake PAO-22040PLS produced consistent bends within tight tolerances. The combination of mechanical alignment, hydraulic tuning, and controller calibration restored the machine’s performance.
